The families who belong to the Inverurie Community Group live in Inverurie town and/or are inextricably linked to Inverurie community through schools and hobbies. Our group came into its present form at Easter 2010, when families living in Oldmeldrum and surrounding villages multiplied into a group of their own. Since then the focus of the Inverurie group has been even more centred on Inverurie town.
Our group represents a wide range of ages (from new born to retirement and every stage in between) and a wide range of nationalities and cultures. Within our group are families or individuals from Congo, England, France, Latvia, Northern Ireland, and Russia (Currently there are no Scots in the group, but all are very welcome!) Together we share building relationship with God and with one another in a diversity of languages and cultures.
Our aims are to grow closer to God, build our faith in Christ, to get to know one another better and support one another, physically, spiritually and emotionally through daily challenges. We seek to meet the needs not only of those within the group but of those known by members of the group (neighbours, colleagues, friends and acquaintances), so that we can show Christ’s love to one another.
Currently we meet each week on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening in one of our homes to pray together and learn from the Bible more about how God wants us to live. On alternate Sundays we share a family time together over coffee and cakes, where we can worship together, encourage one another and learn together more of Gods world and his plans for us.
As a group we are exploring ways to serve the community in which we live. We are currently working towards organising a type of community café for people to come along to each week to meet friends or make new friends (particularly for those new to the area). A place where there is always a warm welcome, a listening ear, a friendly smile, a place for children to play, good coffee and fine pieces and a place to chat. We’ll keep you informed with how we get on with these plans!
We also recognise as a group that the men in the group, husbands and fathers don’t have so much time available in which to build and strengthen friendships. So we are trying to find ways and opportunities to help facilitate this more within our group, so our relationships can mirror those of Jesus and his disciples.
